2013 College Prep Summer Program
Frequently Asked Questions
What?
At the 2013 CSEC College Prep Summer Program, students will spend the majority of their time in small peer groups (12-18 students). They will receive focused math or English instruction as well as brain training and team-building exercises, free breakfast and lunch, and participate in field trips. Best of all, this is all FREE to the students!
Why?
The purpose of the Summer Program is to prepare our incoming students for success at CSEC, both academically and relationally. Many of CSEC’s incoming students have academic ‘gaps’, which create a weak foundation and can make success in higher level courses difficult. Through intensive, focused, individualized instruction, our goal is to identify and then fill these ‘gaps’ allowing students to move forward academically. We have had great success in past years with students re-Accuplacing at the end of the program to either advance to higher level courses, or develop a stronger foundation with critical core concepts in their current level.
Also, many students are hesitant about attending a new school. The summer program provides a safe, positive environment for incoming students to build relationships with their peers and staff members. A heavy emphasis is placed on building these relationships through daily community & team-building activities, as well as field trips.
