CSEC's Governing Board

Deborah Hendrix - Deborah currently is the President of Colorado Springs Early Colleges and the Harrison School District 2 Board.  She has a commitment to education and knows that all students can learn if provided an environment where the teachers are focused on student academic achievement.  She has supported educational choice; one of her two daughters graduated from Colorado Springs Early Colleges, and the other attended James Irwin Charter Schools.   She currently has a daughter attending Harrison High School.  She has her own consulting and training firm, CD Global Enterprises and has been an executive with Junior Achievement.  She also does training for Dale Carnegie.  Deborah has experience working in the area of leadership and career development, diversity management and board development.  She has trained thousands of employees in the areas of people management, customer service, customer-focused selling, new employee orientation, meeting and project management and a host of other topics.  She has managed both people and financial resources.

Ed JonesEd is currently the Treasurer of Colorado Springs Early Colleges.  He brings to the Board of Colorado Springs Early Colleges an outstanding career of governmental service.  He was elected as an El Paso County Commissioner and served for eight years and was first elected in 1994.  It was while he was a Commissioner that he began championing his work for students and those who have been left behind so often in our society.  He was elected to the Colorado Senate from District 11 in 2002.  He served on the Education, Local Government Labor and Legal Services Committees.  Senator Jones also was Vice Chair of the Education Task Force of the American Legislative Exchange Council.  He was instrumental in passing several bills that had a positive and specific impact on K-12 education.  He graduated from the University of Phoenix in 2002 with a degree in Business Management. Ed is a talk show host at KVOR and is a conservative speaker on issues of school choice across the country.

Pat Pace Pat is currently the Vice President of Colorado Springs Early Colleges.  She brings a rich background of educational expertise to the Board of Colorado Springs Early Colleges.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Rockmont College located in Lakewood, Colorado and a second Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.  She obtained her  Colorado teaching certificate while attending Western State College and has been active in the home school movement here in Colorado.  She has used a variety of educational approaches to home schooling her four children including on-line education.  Her experience will be very valuable to Colorado Springs Early Colleges with our Early College Connection program to reach out to those students who would like to attend Colorado Springs Early Colleges part time. Pat has been teaching for the District 49 RMCA Homeschool program for past 3 years.

Laura Calhoun – Laura is currently the Secretary of Colorado Springs Early Colleges. She is the Senior Pastor of Restored Life Church.  She is also the Founder and President of the Nehemiah Women’s Resource Center which is a community outreach ministry to treat the whole person, spirit, soul and body.  She brings an extensive background of involvement in reaching out to the minority community of Colorado Springs.  She is a volunteer Chaplain for the Colorado Springs Police Department, and recently started a Life Coaching ministry called Fulfilled Lifestyle Coaching.  She was born in the Bronx, New York and grew up on Long Island where she graduated from Central Islip Senior High School.  She also attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. for 2 years.  She is currently attending Colorado State University – Pueblo, where she is majoring in Sociology.  During our first year of the school, upon hearing our mission statement, she actively recruited students to our school.  Currently, our school bus stops at her church to pick up students; breakfast is served before school for those students.

Michael Mastrodonato – Michael is Vice President and General Council for Humanitarian International Services Group which serves orphans and widows of the World.  He joined the law firm of Kaman, Berlove, Marfiioti, Jacobstein & Goldman, LLP in September of 1988. On January 3, 1995, he was named as a partner with the Law Firm of Kaman, Berlove, Marafioti, Jacobstein & Goldman, LLP. Michael’s primary areas of practice include general corporate law, real estate, estate planning and trusts and estates. A 1981 graduate of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York,   he received his Juris Doctor Degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law in Santa Clara, California in 1988. His Bar Membership includes New York State, Fourth Judicial Department and United States District Court, Western District of New York.  He is active in civic and community affairs serving on numerous boards.  He has one son who has graduated from Colorado Springs Early Colleges and another one who is currently enrolled.

Thomas Clark - Tom is currently CEO / CTO of Elk Creek Technology Partners in Colorado Springs, He has worked at Elk Creek Technology Partners for 8 years serving the small business and medical community by building, maintaining, protecting and securing their IT systems and data. Prior to working at Elk Creek Technology Partners Mr. Clark worked as Director of Engineering Support Services at NeoCore Inc. ITXC Inc. and Voxware Inc. which were startup companies in high technology. His job at these companies was to create staff and direct the Quality Assurance, Documentation and Customer Service departments of these companies assisting the development and release of the company’s products. He has also worked as a Software Quality Assurance Manager and Engineer at Symantec and Central Point Software. Previously he spent 10 years at Tektronix Inc. working as a Software QA Engineer, Staff Engineer and Electronics Technician. Thomas started his career serving his country as an Electronic Technician in the US Navy.

Chandi Springer Chandi currently is the owner and Chief Executive Officer for both Once Upon a Child and Clothes Mentor in Fort Collins.  She is also the property manager of commercial investment property, Springer Plaza.  Chandi has found the individual responsibility of being a multiple business owner challenging and rewarding.  She is enjoying running thriving businesses and is proud the difference the businesses make in the lives of her management, sales staff and the community.  She employs over 40 management and staff members in the Fort Collins area between the two retail operations.  Chandi graduated from New Caney High School near Houston and attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas to become an educator.  She graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography with a minor in English and passed the Texas Secondary Certification examination and became licensed to teach.  She was hired by the Bryan, Texas school district and taught 9th grade students at the high school.  She is a representative from Colorado Early Colleges, Fort Collins on the Governing Board.  Her daughter attends the school.

CSEC partners with PPCC to offer college courses to CSEC students as part of CSEC's normal school day.

         

CSEC is authorized by Charter School Institute, a state-wide organization that acts somewhat like a school district.

           

Colorado League of Charter Schools supports CSEC with training and other services.
            

Many CSEC students attend off-campus classes at Pikes Peak CC, Arapahoe CC, RedRocks CC, Community College of Aurora and University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
